This is a blended learning class where work is done before class.  Upon registering for the class, each participant will be emailed a voucher from sales force to register with the American Red Cross, where you will set up an American Red Cross Learning Center account.  Participants must be dedicated and hardworking.  This blended course alternates online simulation learning with in-person skills sessions.  There are 7 hours of simulation and 23.5 hours of in-person course work at the pool.  Those who earn their certificate will be able to teach the Red Cross Aquatic programs: Parent and Child Aquatics, Preschool Aquatics, Learn-to-Swim, Adult Swim courses, and water safety courses/presentations.  Participants must bring documentation to the first class (driver's license, state ID card, birth certificate, passport, or other government issued photo ID) as proof that they are at least 16 years old by the end of the course.  Maximum of 12 participants.  An in-person or video water test will be conducted before the start date of the class.

Prerequisites

  • Participant must be at least 16 years of age by the last day of the class. 
  • Maintain position on back for 1 minute in deep water by floating or sculling, tread water for 1 minute, and be able to swim 25 yards in the front crawl, back crawl, breaststroke, elementary backstroke, sidestroke, and 15 yards in the butterfly.

Bring to Class:
Participants must bring a swimsuit, towels, and warm clothes to each class.  Participants also need a 2" binder for the loose leaf book, writing utensils, and a highlighter.  We will also break for lunch and stay in for dinner - - please plan accordingly.
